Types of disclosures 

Public Interest Disclosures:  These involve information about wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical behaviour that affects the community or society at large, including substantial risks to the environment or public health and safety, and issues of corruption, misconduct, or maladministration in public administration.

General Disclosures:  Any other issues that are not captured within public interest disclosures.

With both types of disclosures, you have the option to remain anonymous, ensuring you feel safe and comfortable without fear of retaliation.

Public Interest Information

There are two categories of public interest information:

  • Environmental and health information:  information that raises a potential issue of a substantial risk to the environment or to the health or safety of the public generally or a significant section of the public.

  • Public administration information:  information that raises a potential issue of corruption, misconduct or maladministration in public administration.

Eligibility for submitting public interest information:

Environmental and health information can be submitted by a person who is a:

  • Member of the public

  • Public officer (refer to the SA Water website for the definition of ‘Public officer’)

  • Employee of SA Water

and believes on reasonable grounds that the information may be true and is of sufficient significance to justify its disclosure so that its truth may be investigated.

Public administration information can be submitted by a person who is a:

  • Public officer (refer to the SA Water website for the definition of ‘Public officer’)

and reasonably suspects that the information raises a potential issue of corruption, misconduct or maladministration in public administration.

General Disclosures

These disclosures involve reporting any concerns or issues that are not captured within public interest disclosures.

Eligibility for submitting general disclosures:

  • Employee of SA Water


Process and Timeline

This online form should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

SA Water will investigate, and reasonable steps will be made to notify you (if you choose to share your identity) in writing within   30 days  of receipt of the disclosure. We will tell you:

  • the outcome of the preliminary assessment; and

  • what, if any, further action will be taken.

No action may be required in relation to an   appropriate disclosure  of   public interest information  if the information disclosed:

  • does not justify the taking of further action; or

  • relates to a matter that has already been investigated or acted upon by a   relevant authority  and there is no reason to re-examine the matter; or

  • there is other good reason why no action should be taken in respect of the matter.


Information you need to know before submitting your form:

  • The identity of a person who makes an appropriate disclosure of public interest information will be kept confidential under section 8 of the   Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018, unless there is an exception in line with Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Public Interest Disclosure   Guideline 3.

  • You have the option to share your identity or remain anonymous. If you decide to disclose your identity, you have the right to stay informed. When completing this form, please provide relevant contact details and indicate your preferred method of contact to ensure strict confidentiality. If you decide to remain anonymous and we have more questions about your report, we may not be able to complete our assessment, and you will not receive an outcome letter. Please take this into account and consider which reporting option is best suited to you prior to making a disclosure.

  • If you have concerns or believe that your appropriate disclosure is not being dealt with appropriately, or that you may have been or will be subject to detriment, please contact an SAWater Responsible Officer.
